IAIN DOWIE has called for Dougie Freedman to get a place in the next Scotland squad.
Freedman won the last of his two Scotland caps against France in March 2002, and has since been snubbed by managers Craig Brown and Bertie Vogts.
But the striker is having one of the best goalscoring spells of his career, with six goals in the last 10 games.
And DOWIE reckons the 31-year-old deserves a call-up from new Scotland boss Walter Smith after his performances for the Eagles.
DOWIE said: "I've been in conversation with Walter a number of times and he is well aware of what he is. I think Dougie could certainly be an asset to the Scotland squad, but that is for Walter to decide.
"He is a vastly experienced manager and he has a great team spirit going there. Dougie, I think, would love to play again. If he keeps going the way he is, there is no reason why he can't.
"Walter has brought back David Weir for them and he has done brilliantly and there is no reason why Dougie couldn't go back.
"I think he's had a fantastic spell. As you are aware, he and Clinton have gone a few games without a goal, but before they were fantastic. Dougie's displays have been very good this year.
"I think we have rediscovered the old Dougie Freedman, and that is not a criticism. He has been bright and sharp.
"He has a great body feint and you have to say he is a terrific pro. He scored a 100 goals for this club and that is a special achievement. I think he sees himself being here for a very long time, and why not. He has kept himself fit and looks after himself."
